September marks World Alzheimer’s Month, with World Alzheimer’s Day observed annually on the 21st.

In light of this, I would like to highlight the incredible work of Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA), a charity that my Bristol office has proudly supported for the past two years.

BDAA is a community-driven, non-profit organisation with a mission to make Bristol a dementia-aware city and provide crucial support for those living with dementia. A core aspect of their mission is raising awareness through workshops and educational sessions, which aim to dismantle the stigma surrounding dementia and foster a more inclusive community. Additionally, they organise monthly Memory Cafés—welcoming spaces where individuals living with dementia, alongside their families, friends, and carers, can gather to share conversation, enjoy entertainment, and bond over music, tea, and cake. These events are a lifeline for many and are made possible by the dedication of volunteers. I, along with several of my Venn Group Bristol colleagues, have had the privilege of attending these cafés and witnessing first hand the profound impact they have on participants.

Supporting BDAA over the last two years has been both a pleasure and a privilege for our office. We’re thrilled to share that our most recent charity day raised an impressive £300 for the organisation—funds that will go a long way in sustaining their vital work.

Alzheimer’s Disease, the leading cause of dementia, is a progressive condition that affects memory, problem-solving, language, and behaviour. With over 50% of UK adults knowing someone diagnosed with dementia and one in three of us expected to develop it in our lifetime, the scale of the issue is clear. This makes the work of charities like BDAA all the more vital. They provide not only direct support to those living with dementia but also invaluable resources for the growing number of caregivers who dedicate themselves to helping their loved ones navigate the challenges that come with the disease.
