We are currently recruiting on behalf of a large organisation in Birmingham for a Facilities Assistant/Handy Man.
Duration: 6 weeks
Commencing: Approx. 6th Jan
Where: Birmingham City Centre or Edgbaston – we are recruiting the same job in each location
Rate: £11/99 per hour excluding holiday pay (£13.43 including holiday pay)
Duties:
- Carry out various tasks and activities as instructed though planned work scheduling and reactive helpdesk requests that include general porterage, moving furniture and equipment and setting room layouts for the delivery of teaching and events
- Ensure that unwanted furniture and items are removed from buildings and materials such as wood, metals, cardboard, electrical equipment is correctly segregated into appropriate recycling bins and skips to support the university in maintaining a high standard in recycling figures
- Dealing with front line minor maintenance and repairs that include, unblocking of toilets, changing light bulbs, installing dispensers, mounting frames and boards and general repairs required with the use of basic tools and equipment and carrying out ad hoc portable appliance testing when required
- Distributing large volumes of deliveries to the university of goods and items to faculties and departments in a timely manner to support teaching and exams
- Receiving expected external contractor partners that are booked via the helpdesk to carry out jobs and/or servicing within the buildings and ensuring that inductions are completed before the appropriate level of access is permitted and access cards and keys are issued
- Respond to building incidents i.e., water leaks and taking appropriate first response action that may include cordoning off areas with you use of barriers and appropriate signage put in place to make others aware and report accordingly
- Clearing of snow and ice in adverse weather conditions to make pathways and fire evacuation points safe for all building users. Dependant on sites the use of machinery equipment will be applicable
Required:
- Previous experience in a similar role (essential)
- Immediately available to start in the New Year
Additional info:
- No DBS required
- Hours 37pw, Monday-Friday, shifts are by rota so need to be available to work all three of: 7am – 3pm, 9:30am – 5:30pm and 10am – 6pm
