Locum Democratic Services Officer – Predominantly Remote Working – Between £35 - £40 per hour Umbrella – East Midlands

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are recruiting for a Locum Democratic Services Officer to join a Local Authority based in the East Midlands.

The assignment is offered for an initial period of 3 months with the possibility of extension thereafter dependent upon performance and will be offered on a remote basis however, occasional attendance at Committee meetings in the evenings will be preferable.

Our client are ideally looking for someone to conduct the role on a full time basis, however part time candidates with the relevant experience may still be considered as long as the candidate would be able to do at least 3 days a week including Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The council are seeking a candidate with recent Local Government experience who will be able to provide excellent support covering all areas of information governance independently.

Duties may include:

• Providing advice and guidance as required
  • Scheduling and making arrangements for meetings
  • Preparing and presenting reports as required
  • Supporting the Electoral Services Team, particularly during election periods
  • Providing procedural and other advice at meetings and hearings
  • Writing and distributing minutes and outcome letters and any other relevant documents within agreed timescales in line with legislative requirements and best practices
  • Attending in person committee meetings and supporting the lead officers within the meetings
  • Liaising with departmental contacts as required
  • Preparing agendas and the related service meetings and being capable of producing minutes
  • Managing and delivering the servicing of Council, Cabinet, Committees, Sub-Committees in their decision making processes
  • Ensuring all meetings conform to legal requirements and in accordance with the Council’s Constitution, corporate standards and relevant procedures and processes.

The position offers an hourly rate of up to £40 per hour Umbrella dependent upon levels of experience.
