We are working with a local authority who are looking for a Communications & Engagement Manager for Environment. You will sit within the Environment Directorate and work with government departments, local employers, not for profits and voluntary groups pulling together project teams to deliver effective communications for a wide range of projects.
You will be a key player as the council creates Sustainable Transport. They are delivering on the big transport improvements people in the region need and deserve, changing how people travel, making journeys affordable, reliable, enjoyable, and safe.
Location: Southwest based Authority
Set-up: Hybrid role, 2 days on-site required
Rate: £350 per day via umbrella, inside IR35
Duration: Minimum 3-month initial contract, likely extension
Hours: Full-time position
The work will include:
- Lead communications and engagement for one directorate within the organisation
- Ensuring their voices are heard as we make big choices on diverse issues to tackle the climate emergency
- Develop and deliver on time and to budget effective communications and engagement activities
- Lead on the development and delivery of high impact communications to support the council’s initiatives and Metro Mayoral priorities
- Work with all council staff to ensure Metro Mayoral priorities and the positive work of the organisation are proactively promoted
- Maintain a communications grid of all key activities
- Procure and manage relevant creative and professional services to ensure effective delivery of communication and engagement activities
Qualifications and Education:
- Local Government experience required for initial shortlisting, then at client’s discretion thereafter
- Demonstrable experience in a senior communications role
- Experience of leading a team, setting objectives and managing performance
- Proven experience of crafting narratives and messaging and writing for a range of communications channels, such as business cases, newsletters, reports, news releases, social media, web content
- Experience of managing communications and engagement, working closely with external organisations and the public
- Experience of working with interest groups
- Experience of managing financial resources and budgets, being accountable for appropriate expenditure and regular reporting
