Financial Accountant

We are supporting a leading London university in the recruitment of seeking a skilled Financial Accountant to join their Finance Department.

Job Title: Financial Accountant
Salary: £50,999 - £60,018 per annum plus generous pension and holiday entitlement

Start Date: Jan 2025

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of financial accounting, including balance sheet reconciliations, compliance, year-end processes, and tax-related tasks. Additionally, they will manage the accounts payable function effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the month end process and the month end checklist
• Assist with all aspects of year-end planning, delivering training to internal stakeholders and preparation of deliverables for external auditors
• Manage the financial year-end process and assist the Deputy Director of Finance in preparation of the financial statements
• Oversee completion of monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile the fixed asset register and capital works in progress
• Manage the daily monitoring of bank accounts and investments, regularly updating cashflow forecast/ monitoring actuals vs. forecast
• Oversee the Payments function (3 staff members), and the processing of all supplier invoices
• Completion of the quarterly VAT, annual PSA and corporation tax return, answering any queries
• Manage the University’s Insurance arrangements and renewal process

Person Specification:

• Qualified, part-qualified or studying toward a recognised accountancy qualification
• Minimum two years’ experience working in a delivery focussed Financial Accounts function
• Detailed understanding of financial accounting procedures
• Experience of preparing financial statements to a prescribed timetable, preparing deliverables and liaising with external auditors.
• Line management experience
• Experience working within the Higher Education sector – Highly Desirable
