We are working with a local authority who are looking for a Principal Structures Engineer to promote, plan, organise, manage and deliver on all identified and programmed Structural Capital Transportation Projects within associated budgets and in support of the Joint Local Transport Plan and any other Council Corporate policies and procedures.
Responsible for the effective management and development for the delivery of all Annual Capital Programmes and Budgets within the Structures Team.
Location: Southwest based Local Authority
Set-up: Hybrid
Rate: £27.21 per hour via umbrella, inside IR35
Duration: Initial 7-month contract
Hours: Full-time position
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for negotiating, monitoring & managing Transport's portfolio of supplier contracts to secure the overall improvements and other benefits set out in each contract
- Responsible for working with colleagues and stakeholders in Transport to ensure that suppliers meet the appropriate standards of Project delivery
- Accountable for monitoring and controlling the Major Capital Projects budgets to achieve the approved Capital work programme and service provisions
- Assist Senior Management with the formulation of transport policy and strategies to contribute to the development and delivery of the Council’s objectives
- To optimise the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the service or relationship described by each contract, balancing costs against risks and actively managing the customer provider relationship. To undertake projects and re-engineering processes to achieve targeted performance improvements
Requirements:
- Proven experience of working in an operational service delivery role in a field closely related to the service area
- Proven experience in the role of “technical expert” in the delivery of major projects and/or of determining major development proposals
- Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline or demonstrable relevant experience
- Ability to interpret and monitor financial and statistical data and to cost and plan budgets
- Local Government experience required for initial shortlisting, then thereafter at the client’s discretion
